What was Michael Jackson's educational background?

He started off in a public school in Gary, Indiana until he was 11 years old. His grades were above average and he especially excelled in creative class. By the time the Jackson 5 became famous they had to leave school and were tutored by a private tutor 3 hours a day between Monday to Friday. The tutor often had to travel with them. He graduated from Montclair College Preparatory School.

Although he didn’t get a proper education, he was pretty self-taught and owned more than 10,000 books in his collection, all with different subjects; history, art, philosophy, science, literature and whatnot.

He was known to read a book a day and his favorite topics were history and biographies of people he admired and wanted to learn from like Walt Disney and P.T. Barnum.
He did go to regular grammar school in his native town of Gary, Indiana. And he did receive a high school diploma. Education was something that was very important to him. He always regretted that his early life did not enable him to go farther with a formal education and was very strict when it came to making sure his children worked hard at their schoolwork. Because of who he was, he feared sending them to regular school, so they were privately tutored until his death in 2009.

Michael was always greatly appreciative that he had the opportunity to travel the world so many times and took advantage of that by delving into many different cultures and helping out those who he felt were needy in any way.

In conclusion, Michael Jackson was a brilliant man on many levels. He was like a sponge when it came to learning-and his philosophy was that a person could learn best by putting their heart and soul into any topic or field of interest. Like he said, “the greatest education in the world is watching the masters at work”.
